Traveler Surf Club Malibu Features “Textured Waves” By The Gnar Gnar Honeys

A few weeks ago at the Traveler in Malibu we had the opportunity to share our new short “Textured Waves” filmed by The Gnar Gnar Honeys. It was a beautiful event that started off with a surf with The Ocean Goddess Surf crew. Although the wave forecast was dismal, all the ladies that turned out were vibin’ off of the pure stoke of different communities uniting and sharing waves with true sisterly camaraderie. We scrapped for the tiniest waves and laughed at our mostly failed efforts. It was a lady take over at first point in Malibu! What could be better?! Well maybe a little more swell.

Post surf Julie and Rel, owners of Traveler Surf Club graciously opened up their space to us. Thank you Traveler for providing a place for surfers to congregate and share. The hot shower post surf was also a major plus and refreshed the crew! It was a seamless transition into the event. DJ LOA spun some tunes, we sipped Juneshine and enjoyed art, good conversation, and several select short films by The Gnar Gnar Honeys. We even had a little raffle with swag donated by Carve Designs.

People filed in and the intimate space was filled with friendly, yet unfamiliar faces. Rel, Julie and Stacy were stoked to draw in a new crowd and so were we! A signal of success that our message could reach some new folks. After the “Textured Waves” short, we did a quick Q&A with moderator Monica Medellin. It was just the start to a really important discussion about diversity in the lineup here on the mainland.

Post Q&A we were able to connect with so many folks in the community both working to create change and searching for place. It was the kind of gathering that you don’t want to end. We can’t wait for future events!

Special thanks to Traveler, Ocean Goddess Surf, Juneshine, Carve Designs and our girls The Gnar Gnar Honeys! Check out The Gnar Gnar Honeys site for more photos of the event!
